The station started broadcasting in 1974 as KVDB-FM, with “VDB” being an unobtrusive reference to its proprietor, Russell Vande Brake. KVDB-FM was the sister station to KVDB (1090 AM, presently KSOU), which broadcasts from a similar studio. During the day, they had separate programming, yet at night, a simple listening design was simulcast over the two stations.
