Broward County Fire and Rescue is a career that many young men and women are considering. Becoming an emergency services professional requires dedication, training, and experience. The Broward County Cadet Program offers practical training in fire rescue, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, law enforcement skills, communications technologies such as radio and dispatch techniques.
Broward County Cadets are also allowed to attend various continuing education classes, take part in emergency response drills and exercises, perform law enforcement duties such as traffic control at emergencies scenes.
One thing that many people do not realize is fire-rescue departments have more than just firefighters on staff. There are paramedics, EMTs (emergency medical technicians), nurses, police officers, and other specialist positions within city or county fire-rescues departments like HazMat Technicians who handle hazardous materials responses. It’s important to remember anyone can become an ambulance paramedic with the right training and experience.”
