99.5 WZPL:

99.5 WZPL is a United States radio station based in Greenfield, Indiana, playing popular music of the Top 40 (CHR) genre. 99-5 WZPL’s studios are located near downtown Indianapolis, and its transmitter site is near West Lafayette, Indiana. 99-5 has been broadcasting since 1966 to listeners of all ages with their trademark “You’ll Love It!” slogan.

99-five WZPL was once 99.0 FM but moved to 99.25 in the late ’90s, and then 99.50 after another station took on 99.00 (now WRWM). A few years later, they returned to its current dial position of 99.45, which it has been at since 2003 when Clear Channel Communications bought out Radio One.

Today the radio station plays popular music for listeners age 18–49 with a Top 40/CHR format that includes Pop, hip hop, R&B, Rock hits from local bands like The Killers & Bon Jovi, dance, Latin jams along with throwbacks from Maroon Five & Madonna and 99-five’s very own “99.45 At Work” program that highlights the best of Indy workdays with music and content to make you smile all day long.

Now, if it seems like 99-five WZPL has been around since 1966, but you only started listening in 2003…that is because 99-five became a part of Indianapolis radio history on May 29th, 1977, when they introduced an original format called Disco Radio which would be one of many popular fads over the years including Country ( KJYO ), Oldies ( WRVQ ) & Smooth Jazz ( WJJK ).

Disco was short-lived at 99-five, though, as they switched back to their previous CHR/Top 40 format after just four years. 99-five WZPL has been a popular station in Indy ever since with their on-air personalities and 99-five’s very own 99.45 At Work show that highlights the best of workdays…
