AM 1690 CHTO – CHTO AM 1690 is a popular online radio station in Toronto. CHTO AM broadcasts greed music all time all the day. AM 1690 plays 21 hours of Greek oriented programming every day.
AM 1690 also broadcasts programming in Armenian, Bulgarian, English, Romanian and Serbian languages. Mrs. Maniatakos has been running a closed circuit specialty audio service in Toronto since 196666 under the name CHCR-FM.
This service is broadcast 24 hours a day in Greek language programming; It was initially available as an SCMO service (via CKFM-FM) but switched to cable and was available on Rogers Digital Cable Channel 959 as part of their digital radio offerings in Toronto and the region.
When CHTO was launched in 2007, CHCR was discontinued and CHTO is now broadcast in its place on Rogers. On June 10, 2009, the CTTO applied to the CRTC to increase their daytime transmission capacity to 3 kW to serve the communities of Mississauga and Brampton.
The request was approved on November 5, 2009. CHTO began broadcasting 3 kW in its new ERP by March 2010.
On December 4, 2012, the CRTC approved a change of ownership of the station from Mrs.
Maniatakos to her son John Maniatakos due to the death of Mrs. Maniatakos. October 14, 2015, Canadian Hellenic Toronto Radio Inc. Mississauga has submitted an application to add an AM transmitter that was approved on September 1, 2016.
The new transmitter will operate at 1499 kHz with a daytime power of 23 watts and a nighttime power of 7070 watts. The proposed call sign for the 1490 AM Mississauga would be CHTO-1. This application was approved on September 1, 2016.
